History and Vision
Prairie Tides was created in response to a pressing need for youth-centered healing options in Manitoba. The initiative grew from a commitment to provide care that is relational, culturally grounded, and accessible. Recognizing the diverse needs of youth and their families, Prairie Tides offers two complementary pathways for healing:
- Residential: Live-In Healing Home — a purpose-built facility providing immersive therapeutic care.
- Outpatient: Community Healing Services — offering flexible, culturally attuned therapy and support for youth and families in the community.
The name Prairie Tides emerged through a community-led focus group that included an Indigenous Advisory Circle, board members, and local stakeholders including youth voice. Once chosen, Dr. Elder Albert McLeod shared this guiding reflection:
“We encourage youth to connect with the skyworld above to understand their place in the universe and their relationship with the moon that influences the tides across the globe. The emotional and spiritual journeys of youth ebb and flow like the tides of our rivers, lakes, and ocean. We stand with them as they forge a path that aligns with their hopes and dreams.”
Prairie Tides embraces holistic healing, integrating Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics™ (NMT™), Elder guidance, land-based connections, and the Indigenous Cultural Healing Coordinators. Our beautiful campus and supportive environment provide a space where youth can heal in body, mind, and spirit.
Our Approach
We embrace a Two-Eyed Seeing approach, integrating Indigenous wisdom with Western clinical practices. By centering land-based healing, trauma-informed care, and the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics™, we offer services that address the whole person — spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Our work is grounded in relationship, cultural identity, and community support, ensuring that every youth feels seen, heard, and empowered on their journey to wellness.
